Large broadside condemning the confiscation of Lenore Kandel's Lovebook as “another incident in a pattern of police and community fear, prejudice and harassment directed at the vital youthful community that has arisen in the Haight Ashbury.” It also announces the formation of the Haight Independent Proprietors (H.I.P). “The new merchants of Haight Street having been refused membership in the Haight Street Merchants Association, the oldline merchants on the street who were instrumental in blocking Moe Maskowitz's Book Store permit, have formed their own association, the Haight Independent Proprietors (H.I.P.) which will be open to all independent craftsmen and businessmen in the neighborhood. The first public act of H.I.P is the establishment of a part-time job agency for all those who need a part-time job.”

The Council condemned acts of violence.Review of the Year 1965-1966: defeating the Panhandle Freeway which would have destroyed our Panhandle and part of Golden Gate Park, much attention was focused on schools and education and racial balance, and the Festival of Peoples.Notice that The Hearth, “a community living room” formerly “The Panhandle Coffee House” at Oak and Baker, is now open. “Largely hippie (though squares also ran) in the past, The Hearth almost angrily wants segments of all the Haight-Ashbury to c'mon in, use the place.SNCC Report mentions the “During the riot, two more chapters of the Welfare Rights Committee were formed” and that the rent strike mentioned in last month’s report failed.
